AKA: How to Edit DAI Saves on Playstation

The Dragon Age Keep has always been a little sketchy at times, but with the recent EA purchase and everything else some of us began to worry we could lose the Keep any day now. Ghil Dirthalen has been working on an alternative solution for PC users and asked if I could help with Playstation since that is my primary platform for DAI. I fucked around and found out so you don't have to!

What does this solution do?
To be clear: this is a destructive process, you are sacrificing a playstation save to be converted into a copy of a PC save. The inquisitor, world state, any choices you made in the playstation save will be gone. (but if you have alternative saves of that inquisitor that aren't edited they will be fine). There's also no guarantee that this will work and the save you're working with may become corrupted, so keep backups or accept fate

What you will need
Huge shoutout to CoolKid2D who made the video about how exactly to edit the saves and derick38115 who initially came up with the strategy. This guide is just an adaption of that using a different approach to decryption, the approach designed and supported by Protobuffers

Ever wanted wild hair colors on your console character? You can have it now! You will require access to a DAI save on PC that was modded using this mod.
1. On your playstation create a save that you want to use
2. Exit out of DAI and plug in your USB drive

Go to settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4)

Click upload or delete from console storage

3. Switch to the Copy to USB Drive tab

Click on the menu button next too DAI to see your individual saves

4. Find the one you want and place a checkmark next to it

The newest save should always be closest to the top directly under the profile data
Click ok

5. Click "Copy"
6. You'll be asked to confirm which drive if you have multiple and then save will be copied

Unplug the USB drive

7. Plug the drive into your PC

You'll find the save under the PS4 folder

8. Drill down, DAI saves are saved under CUSA00220

There will be two files. You only want these two files (check the timestamp to ensure you're dealing with the correct files) delete the rest or copy them somewhere else so that they are no longer in the folder

9. Navigate back up one level so you can see the CUSA00220 folder, right click and compress to zip file
10. Create a new folder on your PC somewhere, within that create four folders

1 - Pre Decrypt

2 - Decrypted

3 - Edited

4 - Recrypt

These folders will help you keep track of the files in their various stages in case you need to go back and redo a step

11. Copy the zip file into folder 1

(note: I have created additional folders to account for the different saves, but this is entirely up to you and how you want to manage this)

12. Get your PC Inquisition save and put it in folder 1 Need a PC save? Check out Ghil's Keep
13. Join the protobuffers discord. Protobuffers has created a bot on their discord called EZWizard3 which automatically decrypts saves. Click the link below to join

Protobuffers
For more information for initial discord setup and using the bot check out "The Everyday Usage Guide (FREE SAVEWIZARD)" but I will walk you through the process. This video only covers how to use the bot and nothing about editing DAI saves
14. Go to the "assign-roles" subchannel and get the member and modding and bots roles by reacting with the appropriate emoticons
15. Navigate down to the "dreamer-ez3" chat
16. To use bot commands you will need to type "/" into the message field and all the bot commands will show up
17. Your first command is

"/my_account_id"

It will then ask for your psn name

This command is going to convert your psn name into its alphanumerical ID that PSN uses on the backend, this is important as during the recrypt process the save must been resigned with your PSN name or it will not work

Press enter

18. You will receive a confirmation that will show your ID, you do not need to copy this down as it has been saved by the bot to your discord username
19. Next command you'll use is

"/file2url"

A file upload box will appear, drag and drop your zipped PS4 save into the box and hit enter

20. This uploads your file to the discord server, right click on the file name and "Copy Media Link" You may want to paste a copy of this into a notepad, so you don't lose track of it

There is always traffic in the bot channel so your messages may disappear quickly as more messages get added to the channel

21. Your next command is

"/raw_decrypt_folder"

Paste the link you just copied into the save_files box and press enter

22. The bot will begin thinking and will flash a handful of messages before completion

Note: if it gets stuck on the message telling you to retry if it's longer than a minute, retry, if it still hangs there the bot might be offline, hop into the bot-help channel to report the issue and for more information

23. Download the file and save it in folder 2, make a copy in folder 3 as well, as this is the one you will be editing

You will be warned this could be dangerous download anyways

24. In folder 3, extract the contents by right clicking "extract all"
25. In the extracted folder, navigate down until you see the SCE_SYS, BODY and HEADER files
26. Open HxD (download and install it from here
27. Once the app is open, open the BODY file by drag and dropping it into the app screen
28. Next you will want to do the same thing with DAI save
29. In the DAI save window scroll down until you see FB.SAVE

Highlight that and right click, click select block

30. A window will pop up

Take note of the value in the "Start-offset" field

Click cancel

31. Deselect FB.SAVE and scroll to the bottom of the document

Highlight the last two hex characters (in this case it's "4F 80")

Right click and click "Select Block"

32. Change the "Start-offset" value to the value you saw when you highlighted FB.SAVE then click ok
33. The entire hex chunk between FB.SAVE and the last characters will now be selected

Right click and copy

34. In the Body file in HXD you are going to do the same process you just did up until the copy step, at that step you will instead pasteFind FB.SAVE

Right click "Select Block"

Take note of the "Start-offset" value

Cancel, deselect FB.SAVE

35. Scroll to the bottom, select the last 2 hex characters

Right click "Select Block"

Change the "Start-offset" value to the one from FB.SAVE and click ok

36. Click OK
37. Scroll back to the top, starting at FB.SAVE all the text should be red, this indicates all the stuff that was copied from the PC save

Click File > Save And the text should all turn black

38. Back in folder 3, navigate back up so that you see the "savedata0" folder

Right click and compress to ZIP

39. Back in the discord type

"/file2url"

Drag and drop the newly zipped file into the chatbox and click enter

40. Again right click and copy media link

And paste it into the same notepad that you have the previous link, you will need both for the next step

41. Your next command is

"/raw_encrypt_folder"
In the save_files field paste the first link you got

In account_id enter 0

In decrypted_save_file paste the second link

Click enter This is the longest step in the process, it may take a minute to complete

42. Once done the bot will give you a google drive link

Open the link and immediately a new file should download

Copy that new file into folder 4

43. In folder 4 extract all

In the extracted folder, navigate down until you find the CUSA00220 folder

Copy this folder

You will then navigate to the PS4 folder on your USB drive again, back down to where the CUSA00220 folder is

Delete the old folder and paste in the new one

Unplug the USB and plug it into the your playstation

44. On the playstation go back in your saved data and go to "Copy or Delete from USB Drive"
45. Go into the submenu to select the save
46 Check it and click ok
47. You'll be asked if you want to overwrite, click yes
48. Open DAI and go to load

Select the save that you edited and load it

49. The game will load into the new save (notice how my qunari dude has turned into GhilDirthalen's lovely, Oria)
50. When you go to save it will still show the old save until after you do that first save

When you go in to save again the save will be updated to the new character name and details
