DAV is a game that managed to get made in spite of damn near every force being against it, the fact it shipped at all is a miracle, but not only that, it's a GOOD game! But its tumultous development did leave scars where content had to be removed late in its design, the echoes of so many dreams that never quite made it to fruition due to forces outside of their control. It's heartbreaking. But turns out if you poke around that scar tissue a bit, some remnants of those dreams remain. In December 2024 I went on an adventure and this is what I found
This is a good as place as any to start. Some of these areas can be reached with some creative parkour and clipping, but many can't. Most of these areas can be seen with a flycam style mod like Aether's Better Photo Mode mod. There is one downside to this currently though. While it enables the camera in photo mode to clip through objects/buildings etc, the LODs (level of detail) are anchored to wherever you started the photomode.
Example, if you start photomode during the prologue just outside the bar and try to take the camera down to the "Our Lady of Mercy" statue where you find the entrance to Solas' base and the eluvian, you'll get there and there won't be anything there but ground. For performance, games only load elements when they are close enough to the player that they might see them, and even then, there are usually multiple models of varying complexity that are used. The further something is away from you the simpler the model, with the closest models being the most detailed. This means that if you go walk down to "Our Lady of Mercy" everything will look normal, but if you just send the camera you'll see nothing.
This creates a problem where if you want to see part of a map you can't physically get to, you will be limited on what you can see based on how close you can physically get. That's where we have to break the game.
